After announcing the Sekerera Harare International Comedy Festival, set to take place in August, the organisers promised to host monthly gigs in the run-up to the main fete.
Xtratime Entertainment has decided to deliver on that promise with their first comedy show of the year taking place this Saturday at Jasen Mhepo Little Theatre.
This is poised to be an epic experience with South Africa based Long John being roped in to headline the pop-up show which sets the ball rolling on the road to August’s festival.
The talented comedian has been on fire, winning numerous prestigious awards and also being endorsed by the likes of Steve Harvey.
In an interview Xtratime Entertainment boss Tongai Mbidzo said they had decided to start off their comedy campaign on a high which is why they brought Long John into the fold.
“The young man has been working hard and it was no surprise that he got to win the Savanna Pan African Comic Choice Award as well as the Outstanding Comedian of the Year Award at the Namas last year,” said Mbidzo.
“Having worked with him on previous successful shows, we decided to honour his hard work by giving him the first slot on our journey towards our international comedy fest.”
“We will be hosting more pop-up comedy shows at different venues in Harare as a buildup to the main event in August.”
Xtratime Entertainment has been playing a major role in promoting comedy in the country, having hosted numerous successful shows featuring the likes Anne Kansiime, Barry Hilton, John Vlismas, Alfred Kainga, Carl Joshua Ncube, Q Dube, Long John, Doc Vikela and Farhan Esat to name a few.
