Harare Province Under20 Basketball team is in another stern test at this year’s edition of National Youth Games being held in Mutare from 15 to 23 August.

The Squad was announced last week after a three weeks training camp at Queen Elizabeth School. The team is eager to defend its title as well as to maintain its five-year unbeaten run but this time under the authority of Tapiwa Mungunyana who succeeded Tawanda ‘Younger’ Chitsinde who is now on a national duty as a player.

Applauding the great work done by Chitsinde the newly appointed coach Tapiwa Mungunyana said “coach Younger has done great in the past five years and for me to say I’ll do better than him, it’s difficult. But one thing I can assure you is that for the people watching, they’ll definitely notice a different style of play, naturally because we have different philosophies”.

Mashonaland West is another province to watch as their basketball teams in all age groups are strong enough to win gold medals. Recently they won the U17 National Championship tournament held at Victoria Falls.

Mashonaland West under 20 boys basketball team is the same team which was on the verge of ending Harare’s unbeaten streak in last year’s edition of the same competition.

“Mashonaland West, Bulawayo and Manicaland are threats to us, I’m sure it will be exciting and nerve wrecking to any coach’s first time” continued Tapiwa Mungunyana.
