Harare City Council will soon begin constructing a US$40 million integrated bus interchange at Chinhoyi Street Bus Terminus in line with its vision of becoming a worldclass city, an official has said.

Similar interchanges will be replicated at Fourth Street, Market Square and Charge Office bus termini.

Harare City business development manager, Mr Alois Masepe, said Town House has already set aside funds for the Chinhoyi Street project.

He said the terminus (commonly referred to as Copa Cabana), will be transformed into a massive structure consisting of a commuter omnibus complex, shops, eateries, offices and car parks.

“We have partnered an investor, Cost Ham Construction Company, which has injected US$40 million. We expect to start the project early next year after the rain season and hope to complete it in three years’ time.

“The project will see a major facelift of the Copa Cabana bus terminus and ensure it competes with major cities around the globe.

“A modern structure will help restore the decimated bus terminus which is in a primitive state.

“Kombi operators deserve a favourable environment. The modern set-up we are planning will add some decency.”

Under the initiative, investors will fund construction and recoup earnings from rentals and related fees.
