Kaizer Chiefs snapped a three-match losing streak with a 1-1 draw in their DStv Premiership clash against SuperSport United at FNB Stadium.
A late alteration from the Amakhosi saw Anthony Akumu Agay introduced for Eric Mathoho, whilst Bernard Parker, Willard Katsande and Leonardo Castro returned from the loss to AmaZulu.
Following a quiet start, the Glamour Boys set forward quite randomly with Castro edging close to the opener through a near-post strike inside the area after a cutback from Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.
SuperSport created a more glaring opportunity towards the half-hour mark when a header from Jamie Webber, following a corner-kick, produced a goal-line clearance from Reeve Frosler.
Frosler then showcased his offensive ability, soon after the water-break, as he curled in off the right-hand post following a loose ball off a corner to give Chiefs the lead.
Matsatsantsa changed structure in the last ten minutes of the half, with Lucky Mohomi recalled in place of Kudakwashe Mahachi.
SuperSport came close to the equaliser in the latter minutes of the first half through a pin-point header from Evans Rusike, but Itumeleng Khune produced a finger-tip save.
It was to be Rusike’s last involvement in the match, as at the start of the second half he vacated for Thamsanqa Gabuza, before an outstretched save from Khune denied Sipho Mbule the equaliser.
The Amakhosi surrendered the lead midway in the second half from the penalty spot through Bradley Grobler after Agay fouled Gabuza in the area.
Agay almost redeemed himself with a half-volley from a free-kick ten minutes before time, but goalkeeper Ronwen Williams tipped the volley onto the woodwork.
Williams continued to frustrate the Amakhosi late on with a one-hand save from Ngcobo’s low shot, as it finished 1-1 at the FNB Stadium.
