In a related case, the ultra-conservative Mennonite community in Bolivia, South America, had to deal with ghost rapists between 2005 and 2009.

Women and girls in the Manitoba Colony were waking up to realise that they had been raped while they were asleep at night.

The women and girls eventually started talking to each other and sharing stories about what happened to them.

The male leaders in the colony believed the women were making up these stories or that the attacks could be attributed to demons.

The attacks came to be known as ghost rapes and were often seen as a punishment for sins such as adultery.

Then, one night in June 2009, two men were caught whilst trying to enter a neighbour’s house. The men confessed that they were behind the rapes and that they sprayed their victims with a chemical to incapacitate them and any possible witnesses.

Eventually, it was proven that local men, and not demons, were behind the so called “ghost rapes of Bolivia.”
