Face your fear, take massive action

THERE are things that happen at midnight and live with you for many years. I once woke up in the middle of the night to answer the call of nature. I was barely 10 years old then.

We had visited our rural home. I knew what I had to do, but was afraid of doing it. I could see fear’s gory eyes in the dark. I could see forms and shapes. Fear makes you see things that do not exist. Fear stops, maims and disables.

As I lay there, I started imagining what beasts lay in the dark night outside. When fear takes hold, you start seeing horror movies. You cannot think big while fearing big.

The stories that I had heard took on real horror form. The wild animals that are often talked about seemed to surround the muddy hut I was in. My body temperature seemed to rise uncontrollably and I was in torment.

The night was so dark that getting out of the hut was akin to stepping into hell or a crocodile’s mouth. I could see myself making my last prayers.

It was as if the hut was haunted. I heard a hooting owl outside. Fear haunts. I had to do something, as the urge to relieve myself grew.

Up to now, I remember the day fear tormented me. That pressure was the leverage that I needed to face my fear.

At last, I could not stand it any longer. I ran out, did what I had to do and came back into the hut. It is when I returned that I discovered that I had not died.

The night was simply day without the light of the sun. The night is not dead. It is alive and has its sounds. All my stress, strain and mental pain were just me being tormented by fear.

Fear victimises weak spirits.

What has fear been doing to you? What could you do if you were not afraid?

Fear is only real in the mind.

Fear requires a host mind in order to take hold.

About 95 percent of our fears do not happen. This means 95 percent of our worry and mental exertion is wasted effort. That is real mental power abuse. The mind is special. We should not let it process worry. It should, instead, be used for thinking creatively.

Wasting thought power on useless worries is brain abuse.

Worry is like a rocking chair.

It gives you the impression of doing something worthwhile but you remain in the same place, if not worse.

Fear is an enemy. All of us would do great things if we were not afraid. It is impossible for the mind to hold two opposing ideas at the same time. It is either fear or faith that is at work.

What fears must you face? When fear is faced, it flees. Fear grows the more it is nursed and respected.

Face your fears because, often, they prove to be mere scarecrows.

Fear is like a computer virus; it takes up all the mental processing capacity and leaves you frustrated and grinding in the same place. Think, instead of worrying. Take action, instead of hesitating. Dream big, instead of doubting. Push forward, instead of standing frozen in agitation.

The mind is a powerful and faithful instrument.

It will process whatever you give it. This is why the way you think is the person you will be. Refuse to be a victim of fear. Stand up and start taking action.

Do not park in despair and blame others. Stop looking for someone to blame and start engaging in creative thinking.

There are opportunities all around you.

Think and you will become great.

Take action to cure fear. This is the only known antidote to fear. Do the thing that you fear and see if you remain alive afterwards. Stop fearing and start believing and daring.

Dare to step forward and be counted. Dare to live a life that matters. Dare to do what you have never done. Dare to do what other people have not talked about.

Dare believe in yourself and your thoughts.

Dare to try, instead of fearing you will fail. It is better to try something and fail than to succeed in succumbing to the evil and debilitating grip of the fear of failure. Failure does not mean you are hopeless.

All it means is that you learnt something that would work if done differently.

Failure does not mean that you are a failure. Failure is just an event that you can learn and rise from.

The late Dr Robert H. Schuller etched his name in history with his possibility thinking message.

For him, every fear could be faced and failure could always be reframed.

He wrote this poem:

Failure doesn’t mean you are a failure.

It means you have not succeeded yet.

Failure doesn’t mean you accomplished nothing.

It means you have learned something.

Failure doesn’t mean you have been a fool.

It means you had a lot of faith.

Failure doesn’t mean you don’t have it.

It means you have to do something in a different way.

Failure doesn’t mean you are inferior.

It means you are not perfect.

Failure doesn’t mean you’ve wasted your Life.

It means you have a reason to start afresh.

Failure doesn’t mean you should give up.

It means you must try harder.

Failure doesn’t mean you’ll never make it.

It means it will take a little longer.

Failure doesn’t mean God has abandoned you.

It means God has a better way for you!

The only thing to really fear is fear itself.

Challenge whatever stands in your way.

Refuse to shrink into your shell.

Fear being a passenger in life. Fear living an empty existence that does not have any challenge or dream.

Stretch beyond your fear. See beyond your fears.

What faith-filled action can you take today?

Never be afraid to take simple actions.

Only be afraid of standing still.

Committed to your greatness
