Eight die, 31 injured after Zupco bus collides with fuel tanker

EIGHT people died on the spot, while 31 others were critically injured in a road traffic accident along the Harare-Bulawayo road in the early hours of Wednesday.

In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the horrific accident – involving a Zimbabwe United Passengers Company (Zupco) bus and a fuel tanker – occurred at the 168km peg along the Harare-Bulawayo road near Kadoma.

Eight people are said to have died on the spot, and 31 injured victims were ferried to Kadoma General Hospital.

National police spokesperson, assistant commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the accident:

“The ZRP reports the death of eight people in a fatal road traffic accident, which occurred at the 168km peg along Harare-Bulawayo Road between 12 midnight and 1am, when a Zupco bus had a collision with a tanker.

“Thirty-one (31) people were critically injured and are admitted at Kadoma General Hospital. More details to follow.”
