Healthcare services in Sanyati have significantly improved following the construction of several new clinics financed through devolution funds.

Sanyati Rural District Council (RDC) has so far received $25 million from the devolution kitty and prioritised healthcare services. People used to walk distances to the nearest clinic.

The local authority’s engineer, Pardon Muputa, told The Sunday Mail that the projects are nearing completion.

“As Sanyati RDC, we received $25 million under devolution and we are prioritising healthcare services. We have commenced the construction of Masasa Cclinic in Ward 12, Marimari Clinic in Ward 5 and Pazvakavambwa Clinic, which is also in Ward 5.

“At Marimari Clinic we expect to use at least $10 million and we have so far used $5,2 million to acquire building materials.”

Engineer Muputa said the Zimbabwe Defence Forces is helping with expertise, while villagers are assisting with locally available resources and labour.

“This means a lot to people in this area, because for a long time they have had challenges in accessing healthcare.”

Villagers in Marimari, who used to walk for up to 30 km to the nearest health facility, expressed gratitude to Government for availing devolution funds.

Mr Marvelous Machingura said he had not seen any meaninful development in the area before devolution.

“We have lived in this area since 1996 and I can say that we have been starved of any meaningful development. Marimari was like a forest and we would walk to Nyamatani and Patchway, which is about 30 km from here, to get health services. Now we see the new clinic being built while roads are being rehabilitated. We are very grateful to President Mnangagwa for this,” he said.
