LOCAL musicians united for a worthy cause during the highly successful Bob Nyabinde fundraising concert that was recently held at Theatre in the Park.

The event was organised by Rooftop Promotions led by award-winning thespian Daves Guzha.

Nyabinde is currently indisposed after suffering a stroke.

The musician’s sight has also been affected by his diabetic condition.

The event lived up to its billing.

“We must be there for each other, especially in times of need. The turnout is fine. We are doing everything in line with Covid-19 protocols.

“It is my hope that the little we raise here will go a long way in assisting him (Nyabinde). We wish him a speedy recovery and hope more people come through to assist,” said Guzha.

“We have come together as his friends and artistes to do this show to assist him in the quest of his health.”

Seasoned guitarist and producer Clive Mono Mukundu said he was happy that local artistes are helping each other out.

“It is encouraging to note that we have all these artistes present for a worthy cause. I know many would have loved to take part but the pandemic did not make it possible . . .those with donations, but failed to attend the event can still send them through,” said Mono.

Hope Masike weighed
in.

“I enjoy fostering our Ubuntu and I think as musicians when any misfortune befalls one of us, we need to come together and work as a team to help one another,” she said.

The veteran Afro Jazz singer is popularly known for the hit song “Chabuda Hapana” off his 2002 debut album “Pane Nyaya”.

“The messages and contributions coming through are giving me hope.

“I feel honoured and appreciate everyone who has contributed to this initiative,” said Nyabinde.

His son Agga said: “Since music is our calling, there is nothing else we can do other than fulfilling his wishes; that is, listening to music while we are also helping him.

“As his son and an artiste, I also appreciate what fellow artistes are doing.”

Dereck Mpofu, Mukundu, Masike, Tariro Negitare, Gary Tight, Baba Shupi, Prudence Katomeni-Mbofana, Selmor Mtukudzi and Tendai Manatsa, Albert and Agga Nyabinde are among the artistes that took to the stage.

Zimpapers chief executive officer Mr Pikirayi Deketeke graced the event.

Partson “Chipaz” Chimbodza, Zimbabwe Tourism Authority head of corporate affairs Godfrey “Chief” Koti, Sam Mataure,
Peter Moyo and Suluman Chimbetu’s guitarist Knowledge
“Nodza” Nkoma were also in attendance.
