Four months into his career as a pro, Courtney Lock has earned $8 869 and jumped over 400 places on the ITF doubles rankings.

His wallet and ranking were both boosted by last week’s International Tennis Federation Futures Lagos Open doubles triumph.

Courtney, who turned 22 on Thursday, teamed up with elder brother Ben to triumph 3-6 6-4 10-7 over Alexis Klegou of Benin and France’s Tom Jomby.

It’s was a continuation of a fantastic run of form for ‘Courts’, who finished his college career at University of Nevada by being named in the All-Conference team in both singles and doubles in May.

Courtney’s purple patch also saw him win all three Zimbabwe Futures doubles titles with his brother Ben in June.

However, the Zimbabwe Davis Cup player maintains that nothing compares to the Lagos triumph.

“First because it’s a 25k so that’s as big as you can get in Futures, the closest thing to a Challenger, so obviously in terms of a tournament, that’s the biggest tournament that Benji and I have won both individually or separately,” Lock explained to The Sunday Mail Sport from his US base.

“It was also a very tight final, two very good players that we beat in the final.”

Court calls his nascent life as a pro ‘the journey’.

“I turned pro four months ago, it’s still very recent, but the journey is a good way to describe it, it’s been a journey of ups and downs, obviously like everything else in life.

“So far I can’t complain. I have had success in the short time I have been on tour, I think I have learnt a lot as well,” he said.

Wins on the court naturally translate to improved ranking and Lock is enjoying his doubles career high ranking, sitting at 478.

He was 846 when he turned pro.

“From a young age, I think I have always done well in doubles.

“I have a lot of fun on the doubles court, I see things very early, which maybe some players don’t, I have a passion for doubles,” he said.

Music is Lock’s other passion.

“I do switch off from tennis, I have a big passion for (electronic) music, I like to remix some songs on the computer to take my mind off things.

“I like to watch series, chat to my friends and obviously I am a big sports fan so I follow sport from all over the world.”

The tennis ace is also trying to become a better man spiritually.

“I am also trying to work on my faith, as a Christian we all have to, constantly, it’s something we have to practice too, we have to spend a lot of time on practicing our faith and working on that is something that I do a lot off court as well,” said Lock.

His next assignment is a the Las Vegas Challenger.
