Churches unite against GBV

Local churches have launched a “No Longer Silent” campaign against gender based violence (GBV) as Zimbabwe begins marking 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence tomorrow. The campaign is aimed at ensuring victims of GBV speak out and not suffer in silence.

Religious leaders from different denominations gathered in Harare for the launch of the campaign last week. Speaking at the launch, Roman Catholic Chinhoyi Diocese Bishop Raymond Mupandasekwa described silence against GBV as harmful.

“Silence is toxic and we are here to address issues of gender-based violence. For Zimbabwe’s sake, I will not keep silent,” he said.

“People should speak out on gender-based violence and as leaders of the church, we hope to impact everyone as most people in Zimbabwe are Christians.”
