CHITUNGWIZA MUNICIPALITY managed to avert a potential cholera outbreak despite grappling with persistent water shortages.

This comes after cholera cases were reported in Harare recently.

In an interview with The Sunday Mail, Chitungwiza Town Council public relations officer Mr Tafadzwa Kachiko said no cases of the waterborne disease had been recorded in the dormitory town.

“Despite low water supplies, we have not recorded cholera cases in Chitungwiza.

“For the prevention of cholera, people are advised to make sure they drink and use safe water and boil it at all times,” he said.

“Practice good hygiene at all times, including washing hands before eating and after visiting the toilet.

“Also, desist from eating unhygienically prepared food.”

The local authority has drilled a high-capacity borehole at the fire brigade station to provide bulk water using bowsers to residents.
