AN 11-member team of Chinese medical experts is expected in the country today, as the Oriental State continues to support Zimbabwe’s health sector.

The team is the 18th Chinese medical group to provide support to Zimbabwe since 1985 and their arrival comes as a Chinese traditional medicine clinic was opened at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare on Friday.

In a statement, an official from the Chinese embassy in Harare said the team would comprise of top medical experts from Hunan Province, headed by Mr Luo Weiqiang, a deputy chief physician in the radiology department of the Zhuzhou Central Hospital.

The medical experts will be welcomed by officials from the Ministry of Health and Child Care and Chinese embassy staff.

On Friday, Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga, who is also Health and Child Care Minister, officially opened the Chinese traditional medicine clinic, which was established as a unit at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals with technical support from the 17th Chinese medical team.

This came as the country marked the 35th anniversary of the arrival of the first Chinese medical team in Zimbabwe.

Officially opening the clinic at Parirenyatwa through a virtual platform, VP Chiwenga expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for the cooperation in health, dating back to 1985.

“Experience has shown that including traditional Chinese medicine in a healthcare protocol improves outcomes for patients.

“Traditional Chinese medicine can provide good support to patients who suffer from some conditions, particularly those that are chronic and degenerative such as lower back pain.

“The clinic will truly provide complementary healthcare services,” he said.
