ONE of the liberation struggle mass graves — Chimoio in Mozambique — where thousands Zimbabweans are buried, is set to get a facelift through electrification and connection of water supplies.

The sprucing up of the shrine is part of efforts by the Zimbabwe Heroes Shrines’ Services and Education Trust (ZiHSSET), which was founded by war veterans, to preserve the historical site for posterity.

Businessman, Mr John Manjengwa, earlier this year pledged to revamp the Chimoio Shrine.

Over 3 000 people are said to have been massacred by Rhodesian forces in 1977 during the liberation struggle.

ZiHSSET chairperson, Mr Washington Bangalila told The Sunday Mail that water supplies connection was already underway.

“We have since bought a 5 000 litre water tank, plumbing equipment, taps and some electrical gadgets,” he   said.

“Mr Manjengwa provided transport to Mozambique as well as a plumber and an electrician so works should begin soon.”
