Chicken Inn and FC Platinum were promoted into the top flight in 2011 and both are slowly pushing the traditional football giants into the backwaters of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

And yesterday the two emerging forces of local football Chicken Inn and champions FC Platinum served another sumptuous dish of football at Luveve.

Perfect Chikwende proved to be a perfect find for Norman Mapeza as the former Bulawayo Chiefs scored what turned out to be the winner with just three minutes on the clock. But it was as controversial a goal can ever get with Chicken Inn coach Joey Antipas insisting “it was never a goal.”

“I would want to question that goal, the guys who saw the replays on TV claim that was not a goal.“The linesman also, his flag was always up whenever we were attacking,” a disappointed Antipas said.

The win took FC Platinum’s points tally to 13 and four clear of the Gamecocks who many rate as the real threat to Pure Platinum Play’s title defence push.

Mapeza hailed his team for keeping it tight at the back.

“It was a good game of football, they (Chicken Inn) had their moments especially in the first half but we defended well.

“We knew they were going to play so sometimes we have to defend and abandon our passing game. We just need to keep the momentum, we are doing well, we are picking up points.”

Sensing defeat, and realising that his team lacked the cutting edge in the middle of the park, Antipas played the card that he was keeping close to his chest in the 60th minute.

He made a double substitution, bringing in the Clemence Matawu and Brett Amidu for Malvin Gaki and Innocent Muchaneka.

The tide changed as Chicken Inn regained some composure and purposefulness but they unfortunately failed to breach the FC Platinum defence well marshalled by the ageless Gift Bello. When time came for Mapeza to close shop he also played his cards well and made his own double substitution. He brought on the defensive minded duo of Farai Madhanaga and Godknows Murwira for Never Tigere and Rahman Kutsanzira.Chicken Inn and FC Platinum have now met 17 times in the league since 2011 with Pure Platinum Play winning seven matches, the Gamecocks two and the rest of the ties ending in draws.

The last time Chicken Inn beat FC Platinum in Bulawayo was back in November 2011 and Antipas men have to quickly regain their groove as they went into this tie on the back of a 0-1 defeat at Ngezi Platinum Stars.
