DURING their time at Harare City, the relationship between Phineas Bhamusi and Taurai Mangwiro sensationally broke down.
Bhamusi quit the Sunshine Boys in a huff and headed to Caps United, accusing the then City coach Mangwiro of not giving him a fair crack at breaking into the starting XI.

But somewhere along the way, the two found each other again and at the start of this season, Bhamusi left Makepekepe to reunite with Mangwiro at Triangle United.

And yesterday the pair shared a warm embrace as Triangle won their maiden top flight trophy with a clinical dismantling of the defending champions at Gibbo.

Second half goals from Richard Kawondera (59 minutes) and Man of the Match Bhamusi (89 minutes) handed Mangwiro his second Chibuku Super Cup winner’s medal.

“Zvadirwa sugar. (We have added some sugar into it),” said Mangwiro.

He won the competition with Harare City in 2015.

“Well done to the boys for winning the final against a very good Harare City side. I believe we deserved to win this final. We had done well to reach the final and winning it is the icing on the cake.

“My message to the boys was to have a go at Harare City and not give them a chance. When we took the lead, Harare City came at us but we knew that they would be desperate and we got them on the counter when Bhamusi capped a fine performance by scoring a decisive goal.”

Bhamusi was over the moon.

“I want to thank God for this win,” said the speedy winger.

“I also want to thank the coaches for giving me a chance to express myself. This is a great victory for us. I am happy for Triangle and the fans who came in their numbers to rally behind us.”

Losing coach Mark Harrison, who once again expressed reservations about playing at Gibbo while conveniently forgetting that his team won last year’s competition at their Rufaro home, described Kawondera’s opener as a silly goal to concede.

“I didn’t want to be chasing the game at that point up until we gave up a silly goal. We have cleared the ball and then we try to clear it in the box but then we have three of their players at the back post, from our point of view defensively it was a poor goal to concede.

“It was a home game for them, home advantage…But anyway I don’t want to sound bitter and twisted, but maybe I am, but on the day I don’t think we deserved to win.

“They got a big crowd here supporting them pushing them all the way, it’s (the) 12th man, make no mistake it was a 12th man here and it hurts but you know it’s a game,” said the Briton.

As expected, the first half was a cagey affair with both teams taking a cautious approach but it was the Sugar Sugar Boys who found their stride in the second stanza and bagged a famous win that was celebrated long into the night.
