Those are not the Bishopai??i??s words.

Blame Friedrich Nietzsche and his 1882 book titled ai???The Gay Scienceai???.

The common interpretation of this statement is that Nietzsche was somewhere at least a rung or two below the thing people loosely call the Antichrist.

Which is because, forgive me uncircumcised pen, people do not read as much as they should, and which is ironic seeing as we flippantly talk of living in an ai???Information Ageai???.

Anyway, the fuller Nietzsche quotation puts the context to the declaration.

ai???God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. Yet his shadow still looms. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers?

ai???What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives: who will wipe this blood off us? What water is there for us to clean ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we have to invent?

ai???Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must we ourselves not become gods simply to appear worthy of it?ai???

Nietzsche actually feared the death of religion, the placement on a pedestal of Science in superiority to the immanence of an omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent Creator.

He lived in a time when religion was locked in existential combat with science.

Whereas the science of our forebears sought to prove that intelligent design was behind Creation, centuries of religious suppression led scientific inquiry to actively seek to disprove the existence of a Creator.

And Nietzsche was right. Today, God is well and truly dead. Never mind the superstitious and desperate gyrations of money-seeking worshippers at the Temple of Mammon every Sunday.

Nietzsche had foreseen a time when reverence for the sacred, for a higher authority, would be swallowed by the kind of nihilistic hedonism that has seen us deify oil over the Sacraments and Eucharist.

That time has come. There is a new god.

Mudhara Bob talked about him some ten years ago at the United Nations.

He spoke of a new religio-political order in which Bush was god and his prophet was Blair.

Bush and Blair are gone, but what they believe in remains. And knowing Mudhara Bob, it is self-evident he was not referring to the two chaps in their personal capacities, but rather to what they and their ilk represented and still represent.

It is a religio-political order that Robin Cook talked of as an ai???ethical foreign policyai???, which is un-clever doublespeak for Dick Cheneyai??i??s ai???war-without-endai???.

The new god is here, and we are now the children of this inferior deity that Alfred Lord Tennyson talked of in ai???Idylls of the Kingai??? when a dying King Arthur lamented: ai???But in His ways with men I find Him not. I waged His wars, and now I pass and die ai??i?? As if some lesser god had made the world. But had not force to shape it as he would.ai???

The children of Gaza are witnessing the enthronement of this new god first-hand. Israel is the missionary agent.

Down here in Zimbabwe, Gaza is ai???otherai??? news. It makes interesting reading in the Press and passable watching on telly.

Nothing more.

But it is so much more! More so for a people that has declared a bold ambition to attain economic independence and empowerment.

Where Gaza is a crude declaration that those who do not pour libation at the footstool of the new god will be bombed into oblivion, Zimbabwe and its sanctions are a more sophisticated form of coercion.

And where sophistry doesnai??i??t do the trick, the Gaza way follows.

We are in line for the Gaza way and we are blissfully ignorant of the fact.

Zimbabwe is one of only about four countries in the world still with a central bank fully under state control and gamely avoiding the tentacles of the Rothschilds and what they stand for.

Zimbabwe is one of only probably two African countries – the other being Eritrea – that has steered clear of the new godai??i??s evangelistic ministry called AFRICOM.

Zimbabwe is fighting the new god on the economic and military fronts. And Zimbabweans are generally apathetic about this.

We do not appreciate the extent of the war we are fighting. Which is why Gaza is a side story for us.

Solidarity with the children of Palestine is an affirmation that we are not Tennysonai??i??s children of a lesser god.

Our faith in ourselves, our belief that we were created for something better is the first step in confronting this new god and rightly asserting ourselves as masters of our own destiny, no matter the snarling of this new god.

We are not hewers of wood and drawers of water. We have a higher calling. But it requires sacrifice. Are we prepared to fight the good fight?

After all, Tennyson did end his poem thus: ai???My God, thou hast forgotten me in my death;/ Nay – God my Christ – I pass but shall not die.ai???

Because an idea cannot be killed. And Zimbabwe represents an idea that stands firmly in opposition to this new god.

We are not children of a lesser god. We are all children of Gaza, of Chimoio, Setif, Hanoi and My Lai.
