BEYOND THE COVER: Useful tool to understand the Bible

INTERPRETING the Bible is a daunting task, which is why many people rely on their church leaders to help them understand it.

Most of these spiritual leaders and other intellectuals have gone a step further to put their understanding of the Word of God in black and white.

This has resulted in thousands of religious publications floating around the planet, which is why every now and then one of these flies across my path.

I recently read Evangelist W Mutanza’s “Spiritual Birth”, in which he explores some of the most talked about subjects in Christianity: being born again and entering the Kingdom of God. The book summarises how an individual can be born again with the writer making use of illustrations and verses to aid the reader to get a clearer picture of the whole process.

Mutanza highlights the fact that rebirth is spiritual.

“Someone thinks we shall be saved in Heaven, no, no not at all, the spotless church that shall be taken in heaven is established here on earth. A pure and perfect person is here on Earth first.”

The evangelist points out the importance of receiving Jesus Christ, quoting John 1:12 which says: “All who received Him, He gave them power to become sons of God.”

When people are born again, they recite the sinner’s prayer in which they accept Jesus Christ to be their saviour. While I was reading, I also grasped the fact that the Holy Spirit needs a place to dwell within a believer. Mutanza uses Acts 2:1-17 to explain how the Kingdom of God builds the body of Christ in a believer as it creates a vacuum by putting off the old sinful nature as power manifests upon a cleansed believer like on the day of Pentecost, citing verse 4 which says: “And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterances.”

The writer explores the root of sin, how to become a temple of God, salvation of the soul and flesh, as well as the purpose of salvation among other things.

Despite it being a small book, the massage is powerful and will go a long way in explaining some of the spiritual questions asked by many. There may be various doctrines concerning the subjects that are being discussed in this book but Mutanza’s work might prove to be a helpful tool in broadening an understanding of the Word.
