FOR close to a decade, Trae Yung (real name Tracy Mbeulani) has proven to be one of the most consistent female hip-hop artistes in Zimbabwe, bagging several awards along the way.
The hip-hop goddess, who recently released an album with Noble Stylz, is now looking beyond music production, expanding her brand to other areas.
Enter Tribe Trae, a company offering various services that range from multimedia to fashion.
In an interview with The Sunday Mail Society, Trae Yung said the brand centered on her work and influence in the music industry.
“I have been busy doing studio work, that’s recording music and shooting videos for the past few years but I have always had the idea of running my own company that would cater for certain needs in the arts industry,” she said.
“Tribe Trae offers a number of services that include PA system hire, provision of MCs, event venues, catering, clothes printing and graphic designing among other things. We are currently setting up a recording studio with the main focus being on corporates who need to record voice overs and adverts.”
The company will sign new artistes as they seek to identify and promote fresh talent.
Having been in the entertainment industry for a while, Trae believes she has mastered a lot of skills that will be helpful in paving her new path.
“I have always believed in entrepreneurship because I am more productive when I do what I actually love. I took my time working with a number of people who came before me in the various fields that I am venturing into so now I believe I am ready to run my own productive business.”
She added that while the new venture would not be a hindrance to her music career, some time off would be needed in order to channel her energy to the business.
“This move will not have any negative impact on my music career but I believe it will actually make me grow. However, I am taking a break from the studio as a recording artiste for a few months as I embark on this new journey.
“I am sure my fans will not be starved because of the new album that we released with Noble Stylz, ‘G.O.A.T (Greatest of All Time)’, and I will also be releasing random singles next year.”
The new album is packed with explosive music held together by deep lyrical content. The 10-track project showcases both artistes’ storytelling prowess backed by solid instruments.
