The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe yesterday instructed all banks, microfinance institutions and payment service providers to continue offering essential banking services during the lockdown period.

“The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe wishes to advise the public that essential services will remain available to the transacting public.

“In this regard, the banking sector will continue to offer and the public will continue to have access to the following essential services: Mobile Banking, RTGS, electronic fund transfers, point of sale, mobile money and international receipts and payments,” read a statement from the bank. The RBZ said all banks were expected to activate their continuity arrangements and call centres during the 21-day lockdown period.

To enhance public safety and social distancing, all bank branches, agencies, banking halls and bureaux de change were instructed to close.
