REPS Theatre was buzzing with sounds from three decades back on October 21 as the repertory players presented their 750th production, a musical dubbed “A Tale of the 80s”.

From start to finish, the auditorium was full of energy as the audience sang along to yesteryear hits such as “Jump”, “Thriller” and “We Built This City”.

It was quite a spectacle to see older folks reliving their youth and younger people realising that a lot of the lyrics and beats they dance to today are not so original after all.rom start to finish, the auditorium was full of energy as the audience sang along to yesteryear hits such as “Jump”, “Thriller” and “We Built This City”.

The love songs drew cuddles, the dance songs had people stomping and the entire atmosphere made for a warm summer night of fun.

Kudos to Reps and the band for brilliantly belting out more than 25 tracks with ease.

Their seamlessness proved that they had taken time to rehearse and stitch their production together.

The vocalists also did a splendid job on most songs though there were some instances where they failed to deliver, but overall it was a polished performance on their part.

A show at Reps Theatre cannot be called great without mention of the costumes. As per their standard, the repertory players were all looking immaculate in simple but on point costumes.

The power of costumes was seen in Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”, which came with the zombies and all.

The downside was that the entire set consisted of Western songs. Surely Zimbabwe and Africa have yesteryear hits that still elicit fond memories.

That show done, Reps Theatre shifts its focus to this year’s Christmas Pantomime, “Puss in Boots”, which will run from December 6 to 23 in the main auditorium.
