Bulawayo-based hip-hop artiste Asaph, real name Tafadzwa Tarukwana, recently took to Twitter to declare that he is the best rapper in the country.
“And just for the record; I’m the best rapper in Zimbabwe and I’m working on taking over the world”, wrote the musician on his handle.
The statement was met with mixed reaction.
Such declarations are not a rarity in hip-hop, with numerous rappers blowing their own trumpet every now and then.
While it cannot be disputed that he is on top of his game, claiming the crown in the genre in another thing altogether.
However, Asaph can lay a strong claim.
He was recently signed by Def Jam Recordings Africa, a subsidiary of Universal Music Group, which is one of the biggest entertainment brands in the world.
He joins a list of other continental heavyweights such as Nasty C, Stogie T, Cassper Nyovest, Tshego and Ricky Tyler, to name just a few signed to the label.
The rapper also has a number of awards and nominations, including an MTV Africa Music Awards nod under his belt.
