BOOKS, by their nature, come in different forms although they may appear the same in terms of design and outlook.

Likewise, their impact on the readers is also not the same.

Just as the title describes it, lawyer Davison Kanokanga’s compilation “Wisdom Tips for Life: A Very Small But Powerful Book of Wisdom” is a useful manual for use in all aspects of life.

The bulk of the book takes thought-provoking and inspirational quotes from the Bible.

This in a way gives the compilation authenticity and weight.

Other quotes are from scholars, writers, thought leaders and other famous people who had potential to transform communities during their time on earth.

This transformation would in turn leave the social conditions of these communities and their citizens improved.

Dr Myles Munroe is a thought leader whose ideas and writings have impacted many across the globe.

Kanokanga, a counsellor, pastor and public speaker who has featured on radio and television, has also drawn on some of his nuggets for his compilation.

Dr Munroe’s quotes comment on different aspects of life, including but not limited to general life, politics, marriage and divorce as well as religion.

“Stop wallowing in regret about something that is in the past. Do not revisit the past. There is no future in the past. Put the past behind you. Get your eyes off it. Quit paying attention to it. Leave it behind and never revisit it. Let the past be the past. Rather, people should expend their energies on the future.” (p6)

This Dr Munroe quote can fit anywhere but principally, it dissuades people from fretting over the past.

For those who have not read through the compilation, there is a real danger of passing it as commonplace.

However, after going through it, readers’ views will no doubt be altered.

Other thought leaders quoted in the book include Robert Kyosaki, Steve Jobs, Zig Ziglar, Collin Powell, Toni Morrison, Nelson Mandela, George Orwell, Henry Ford, Warren Buffett, Martin Luther King Jr, Mahatma Gandhi and John Stuart Mill among others.

The cast of writers and thought leaders itself is impressive and the content is invaluable to those who spare time to go through it.

It is the author’s conviction that his compilation will help others navigate their lives, marriages and businesses among other things.

“If just one life is made better or one marriage is saved, I will have done my part. My journey will not have been in vain.” (p231)

There are also some touching quotes on love and marriage.

“Love is like an omelette; the quality of an omelette is determined by the quality of the eggs used to make the omelette. Good eggs give you a good omelette. One bad egg will spoil the whole omelette.” (p41)

Again he gets a nugget from the late distinguished United States military leader Powell:

“There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.” (p45)

Kanokanga, who is the founder and leader of the Harare-headquartered Impact Christian Centre — which he runs with his wife Gwendolene — also does commercial arbitration through the newly-formed Alternative Dispute Solutions Centre.

He has also published “Commercial Arbitration in Zimbabwe” (2020), a book which shows his strength in the field of arbitration.

Other titles under his belt are “Marital Bliss” (2008), “More Love”, “Less Stress” (2010), “The Love Life” (2012) and “Marrying Right” (2016).

The couple also run The Marriage Centre, which offers counselling to married couples and those planning to get married, among other services.
