Two Gweru school teachers and a Mkoba Teachers’ College cook were on Thursday arrested for allegedly leaking a 2014 Ordinary Level Mathematics Examination Paper.

The examination, which candidates sat for last Monday, might have to be reset.

Presbyterian Church Private College teacher Praise Dube; Thulani Nkomo of Hwata Secondary School, and cook Shepherd Manjanja intercepted a sealed Mathematics Paper One Examination envelop.

They then copied the questions and sold them to candidates.

An informant alerted authorities at Mkoba Teachers’ College after spotting Manjanja in the midst of a transaction.

Midlands provincial education director Mrs Agnes Gudo confirmed the case.

“There is a report which indicates that two teachers in Gweru allegedly leaked exam papers to candidates. The matter is being handled by police and the two teachers have been arrested,” she said.

“For further details, I refer you to the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council provincial offices. They have been mandated to deal with such matters.”

A source who preferred anonymity weighed in, “After Manjanja was spotted with the questions, the college principal quizzed some students who then revealed the scandal.

The matter was reported to police and Manjanja immediately arrested. Manjanja then implicated Dube.

“Nkomo was also spotted with the paper after leaking it to some candidates.”

Last year, the school head at Njeremoto Secondary School in Zhombe, Vimbai Manaka, was arrested for leaking geography and integrated science examination papers.

Bonaventure Mungwiro, a teacher at Manunure High School in Kwekwe; his brother Berbandino, a teacher at Munyati High in Kwekwe; Midlands State University student William Gondo; as well as Chiridzo Private College teachers Michael Chiridzo and Lloyd Mpofu were also implicated in the case.
