In an era where technology has affected almost every aspect of life, the role being played by the telecoms industry in society has also significantly grown.

From mobile network operators to internet service providers, there is a clear indication that competition is rife as companies seek to capture the public’s attention.

Zimpapers has decided to reward the players who have excelled in various capacities by hosting the Zimpapers Telecoms Awards which will be held this Tuesday at the Rainbow Towers.

The ceremony will be running under the theme, “Surviving Disruption through Innovation and Diversification”.

Data Centre Africa Chairman, Dr Dunny Derera, will be the keynote speaker at the event.

Speaking to The Sunday Mail Business, Zimpapers Corporate Events manager Ms Jackie Kathemba said the event is meant to celebrate excellence in the telecoms industry.

“We are going to be celebrating excellence in various telecoms categories which will include mobile network providers and internet service providers, among others,” said Ms Kathemba.

“This is a Zimpapers brainchild after the realisation that there was a gap in the market for something of this magnitude.”

She said winners were being judged according to how they performed in 2017.

“Auditors from Barker Tilly Gwatidzo will adjudicate and give their reports on the night.”

Afro-pop sensation, Brayn K, will provide entertainment.

Meanwhile, the event will also coincide with the launch of Zimpapers’ newest baby, the “Insight into Telecoms Magazine”. We are going to be launching a magazine which is a must-read for everyone who is interested in knowing more about the telecoms industry.

“The magazine looks at various issues affecting the sector, technical issues, the business side of things and global trends, among other things.”
