Zimpapers hosts cyber security indaba

Zimpapers (1980) Ltd and the Ministry of ICT and Cyber Security will on Tuesday and Wednesday host a cyber-security conference in Harare.

The conference will be at Celebration Centre and is aimed at giving businesses a platform to contribute to the National Strategy Document on Cyber Security.

Other partners include Zimbabwe Information and Communication Technologies, Grant Thornton, Econet Wireless and the Harare Institute of Technology. The Herald and Chronicle are the official media partners.

Co-ordinator Mrs Elizabeth Mushonga said ICT Minister Supa Mandiwanzira would be among the key speakers.

“The aim of the conference is to give the business fraternity the platform to contribute to the National Strategy Document on Cyber Security,” she said. “This is an opportunity for businesses to understand cyber threats, budget for them and invest in secure infrastructure.”

Mrs Mushonga said the conference was designed around panels to make it interactive and enable participants to contribute to the national cyber security agenda.

“Various specialists will share best practice and real life experiences of cyber-attacks, the defence systems that exists, issues to do with privacy and data, insurance, encryption, mobile security how to respond and deal with threats that come with pirated software,” she said.

“There also will be opportunities for exhibitions for companies that wish to showcase their products.”

Following the increase in cyber crimes in the country, Government came up with National Strategy Document on Cyber Security, which seeks to combat online theft, fraud, bullying, peddling of false information and defamation.
