Zimbabwe volleyball giants Support Unit will look to record their first win in the Men’s Africa Club Championship when they take on Uganda’s KAVC in a Pool D match at Masaken in Tunisia Wednesday.
Both teams are winless in three attempts with the Zimbabwean Policemen succumbing 0-3 (14-25, 15-25,12-25) at the hands of Algerian giants Setif in their opening match.
They went on to lose by the same 0-3 margin against Somoha of Egypt who dismissed them (21-25, 12-25, 7-27) before Libyan powerhouse Ahly Beni Ghazi thumped them 0-3 (14-25, 22-25, 16-25).
Support Unit head coach Itsalang Abu Basuthu has admitted that nerves and inexperience has greatly affected their campaign, this their maiden voyage at this level.
However, he appears optimistic they the team can get it right and the fact their opponents from Uganda find also find themselves winless in three attempts should act as motivation.
The game starts at 9am tomorrow.
“It is a tough competition…when you lose you learn,” he said.
“They are a good team, they are tall, powerful and play fast game, but there are chances we can beat them.
“We have to find a way of dealing with them, there is no way out of this. It’s a war,” declared Basuthu.
The Ugandans tale so far tells of a sad story after falling 0-3 (25-27, 13-25, 15-25) to Prisons of Kenya in their first match.
The East Africans then fell 1-3 (19-25, 25-21, 17-25, 21-25) to Ahly Ben Ghazi in their second game before rounding it up with another 0-3 (12-25, 20-25, 16-25) to Setif.
This in itself makes for a potentially thrilling bottom of the table clash.
