Zimbabwe’S re-engagement with the international community under the new dispensation continues to steam ahead, with youths from the country being invited for the first time to a key indaba in West Africa.

Six representatives of the Zimbabwe Youth Ambassadors will join other young people from at least 14 African countries in Ghana for the 2018 Model Economic Community of West African States meeting. The meeting provides the youths with a platform to discuss their role in economic development and governance.

ZYA secretary-general Mr Ray Tondoi said the invitation comes at a time several countries and bodies are opening their doors to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration after years of isolation under the previous regime led by Mr Robert Mugabe.

In an interview with The Sunday Mail, Mr Tondoi said the Ecowas youth meeting was one of the most vibrant indabas in Africa.

“Our President is working hard to ensure that Zimbabwe is re-engaged in the international community. This is our opportunity to engage with one of the biggest blocs in Africa,” he said.

“We are complementing the efforts of our President, who is working tirelessly to put Zimbabwe back on the map.

“As young people, we are hoping to bring economic knowledge that will enable the development of our young entrepreneurs and foster innovative and research skills in order to turn the face of our economy.”

Other countries represented at the indaba include Benin, Cote d’ivoire, Guinea, Mali, Senegal, Ghana, The Gambia, Niger, Nigeria, Togo, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea Bissau and Cape Verde.
