WHILE people across the globe are still talking about the recently released “Black Panther”, Zimbabwean film producers have come to the party with an intriguing movie.
“Kushata Kwemoyo” premièred last Thursday at Ster Kinekor, Eastgate in Harare.

The many moviegoers who came out for the première eagerly waited to see why the production won the Outstanding Feature Film honour at the National Arts Merit Awards before it was even officially released.

After watching it, I feel the Nama adjudication panel were on spot on.

“Kushata Kwemoyo” is miles ahead of any recently released local big screen productions and competes favourably with all-time favourites like “Neria”.

Mirazvo Productions and director Shem Zemura deserve more than a pat on the back.

Emotions explode as the excellent casts tell the story of deceit and vengeance.

While everyone brought their A-game, the movie would definitely have lacked much had it not been for the brilliant Gamuchirai Duve who plays the role of emotional and devilish “Chiedza”.

Duve character carries the movie from start to end, exuding inimitable qualities.

Another powerful aspect of the film is its clear audio.

In the drama series, “Muchaneta”, the Mirazvo team struggled with sound in some episodes but this time around they have come improved.

The music selection was great, with good use of dominant chords to capture mood and stir emotion.

Another plus is the effective use of local languages aided by subtitles.

Local filmmakers often spoil their productions when they force their cast to do all their lines in English – even when it is clear that the Queen’s language may as well be Greek to them!

As per Mirazvo Tradition, simplicity is the order of the day, using just two locations to tell a wonderful story.
