The Zimbabwe Football Association will this year receive $1,3 million from Fifa, the local soccer governing body’s head, Cuthbert Dube, has disclosed. In an interview yesterday, Dube revealed that some of the money will go towards the acquisition of an administration block in Harare.
“They (Fifa) have agreed to give us money to purchase a head office, which will give us the look of a serious business entity unlike the one at number 53 (Livingstone Avenue), which I call the house of horror.
“We have managed to find an executive building in Alex Park and that is where Zifa will be headquartered. On the Bulawayo office they (Fifa) have said ‘we are going to give you a grant in September’,” he said.
Dube disclosed that they are continuing to engage Fifa on plans to construct additional stadiums in the country.
He added that Zifa will soon engage a marketing consultant seconded by Fifa for their re-branding and marketing strategy.
“The reason why Fifa is confident of us is because we said whatever project they fund, Zifa will not receive a cent.
“No money will go through the Zifa books because of our past record. It will go directly to the contractors.
“We want to correct this bad image that is chasing away our sponsors,” Dube said.
