OVER 1 200km from home, in a land awash with world-renowned artistes, it takes someone with something special to turn heads.

For award-winning gospel musician, Minister Takesure Zamar Ncube, that something special is “the anointing and the grace of God”.

The “Nyasha Pamusoro Penyasha” singer literally shook South Africa as he recorded his debut live DVD at the 3 000-seat Hope Restoration Church in Johannesburg last weekend.

The crowd consisted mainly of foreigners. They swarmed the church to support Zamar as he set out to make history, and he did it in pristine style.

Faced with a task of recording 25 tracks, only gurus in the game could execute the duty and Zamar gathered them all.

On the drums was the energetic Sabu Satsha and legendary Sam Mataure. On rhythm guitar was former Joyous Celebration bassist Bheka Mthethwa. The music director was another African gospel guru, pianist Siyanqoba Mthetwa, backed by Tiyelani Chauke on second keys. Samuel Siwela and Frank Mavhirima were on the lead guitars, and Blessing Chimanga played marimba.

From one track to the other, the musicality oozed by the entire team was phenomenal and proved that virtuosos were at work.

On vocals were the sweet sounding 21-member choir, which was marshalled by the newly appointed Joyous Celebration co-music director, Mnqobi Nxumalo.

Alternating between deep worship tracks and power praise tracks, Zamar got the church auditorium buzzing for a cool plus five hours with the concert finishing way after midnight after starting at 6.45pm.

Some of the songs that got the crowd into a frenzy included “Nyasha Tete We”, “Nionyeshe”, “Nyasha Pamusoro Penyasha”, “Ndoenda” and “Ngindinga Wena”.

There were also a number of collaborations on the night especially with upcoming Zimbabwean artistes namely Trust Ngwenya and Benjamin Hamandishe. Both proved that they have potential to blossom into powerful worshippers just like Zamar or even surpass him.

However, it was the collaboration with Pastor Solly Mahlangu on the track “Ezekiel”, which got the crowd into a frenzy as they sang and danced along to the groove of the track. Though all the action on stage was amazing, something in the crowd was also noteworthy.

A number of renowned South African artistes attended the event. These included the likes of Dr Thumi, Omega Khunou, Collen Maluleka, Takie Ndou, Rofhiwa Manyaga and homeboys, Reverend Chivaviro and Mkhululi Bhebhe among many others.

“I was really shocked by the turnout to the show. I am truly speechless,” said an exhausted Zamar after the recording.

“I honestly believe that some of the people in that auditorium were angelic beings because three days before the show the number of tickets sold were very low.

“To hear that some people came through from as far as the UK to be here with us is so humbling. Am grateful to God and I give all the glory back to him.”

Besides the music, Zamar was also blessed by his spiritual parents Bishop Collin Nyathi and Senior Reverend Dr Sarah Nyathi, who lay their hands on him. The DVD is expected to be out in September and Harare has been earmarked as the host of one of the launches.
