ZIMBABWE Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has clarified that former commissioners were not pampered with the US$5,5 million as was reported last week.
It was alleged that former commissioners, Prosecutor-General Mr Johannes Tomana, Dr Rutendo Faith Wutawunashe, Mr Abdulman Eric Harid, Mr Abdulman Eric Harid, Retired Police Senior Assistant Commissioner Casper Khumalo, Mrs Juliet Machoba, Mr Kuziwa Nyamwanza, Ms Alice Nkomo and Retired Brigadier Elasto Madzingira were given houses by ZACC.
It has since emerged that the aforementioned former commissioners are not under investigations save for the four general managers who were recently suspended.
ZACC principal public relations officer Phyllis Chikundura said: “The US$5, 5 million does not apply to the former commissioners mentioned in your article, but to ZACC employees who are currently on suspension. ZACC wishes to assure members of the public that it investigates cases of alleged corruption without fear, favour or prejudice.”
The US$5, 5 million housing programme was funded by the Reserve Bank following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2008 with an objective of capacitating “the Anti-Corruption Commission so as to effectively help in curbing the devastating economic crimes underpinned in rampant corruption across most sectors of the economy”.
