Yamurai Women Empowerment Group, a local non-governmental organisation, in partnership with DHL, recently donated 100 day-old broiler chicks, two 5 000-litre tanks and bedspreads to the Society of Old Destitute and Aged (SODA) in Highfield.

An official from Yamurai Women Empowerment said they were moved by the plight of the senior citizens at this place and saw it fit to seek funding for a poultry project and two water tanks.

“I believe projects like poultry will go a long way in helping our parents here to generate income so that they can sustain themselves,” she said.

DHL chief finance officer, Ms Susan Katsukunya, said their aim is to alleviate poverty.

“Our aim is to teach, help and to go green, hence we have chipped in with the little that we had with Yamurai,” she said.

SODA’s projects co-ordinator Ms Emilda Mukaratirwa appreciated this noble act and urged other corporates to chip in to help the less privileged in any way.

“We are happy and blessed that our plea has been answered at last, we wish to embark on market gardening and generate income for ourselves.
