KUDZAI MWARAMBA, the Buffaloes player who had a hand amputated last week after a reported machete attack in Mutare, is recovering well.

Officials at the promotion-chasing Eastern Region Division one soccer side told The Sunday Mail Sport that Mwaramba was taking the turn of events in his stride.

“We thought he would be down after such a gruesome incident but the guy is strong and is defying the odds,” said team manager Aaron Dzvete. “From the (hospital) visits one can see that the guy is in high spirits despite the traumatic incident which befell him. We continue to pray for his speedy recovery as a team.”

It is not clear what losing his hand means to Mwaramba’s career, but Dzvete said missing out on his services at such a key stage of the season was a massive blow to Buffaloes.

“He has been one of our influential players and definitely we would have wanted him at this stage of the season when we are fighting for promotion into the top flight.

“Losing a player of such a calibre obviously affects the team but at times we have to accept such situations, move on and put trust in those that we have,” he said.

Buffaloes are second on the log, three points behind rivals Mutare City.

Meanwhile, Buffaloes kit manager Malvin Lifa – who was with Mwaramba on the day he was attacked – believes the attack was pre-meditated.

“These people were just used to do whatever they wanted at this service station and didn’t know that ownership had changed and we were now working there, paying rent and doing out car washing business.

“Kudzi left to go to the toilet and the next thing he was shouting that he had been attacked. His arm was badly hurt and the doctors had little option but to amputate him,” our sister paper H-Metro quoted as Lifa saying.
