THE resort town of Kariba is notorious for its hot weather but during winter temperatures take a dip and this would be the perfect time for holidaymakers who hate the scotching sun to visit the area.
For those who are planning on visiting Kariba during the winter season, Cutty Sark Hotel would be the perfect destination especially on June 11 as it plays host to Oliver Mtukudzi and Lady Storm. The hotel is organising a fête dubbed “A Lakeside Party with Doc Tuku and The Black Spirits”, which is set to be the perfect winter warmer in the resort town.

Tuku’s star power and brilliance on stage, and the backing of lady of the moment Lady Storm aka Eriza, is certain to produce a spectacle.
Mtukudzi is not new to performing on such platforms having graced Montclair Resort and Casino last year where gave holiday makers a memorable performance. On the other hand, Lady Storm has slowly been establishing her roots in the industry and of late her performances on stage have led to many promoters seeking her services.
Lewis Chasakara the chief executive of Chas Hotels and Casinos, who run Cutty Sark Hotel, said due to the obtaining economic environment, tourism players in the country had to come up with strategies to stay afloat.
“Our minister (Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Walter Mzembi) has long voiced his concern about Zimbabwe being an expensive tourist destination. With the tax man forever on our case and the strong dollar surrounded by weaker currencies in the region, tourism receipts have gone down.
“While the minister and other relevant offices try to find ways of easing the burden on the tourist, domestic and foreign, we as players have to play our part in ensuring that we continue to operate by thinking outside the box,” said Chasakara.
The Cutty Sark event is set to be unique in many aspects and considering the location, the atmosphere will definitely be magical. The hotel has put in place packages specific to those that will in Kariba for the Tuku gig. Cutty Sark Hotel is located at the top of Nzou Drive with a superb view of Lake Kariba and the Matusadona Mountains.
