Windview Primary School Scripture Union Club members and their teachers recently embarked on a journey to Melfort.  The journey’s purpose was to donate some food stuffs and clothing to MEST Foundation Children’s Home. We were accompanied by our Acting Head, Mr Dondo and six other teachers.  We had prepared everything well in advance and everyone was looking forward to having a good time with our less fortunate brothers and sisters.

We arrived at around 3pm and were warmly welcomed to the centre by Mr Matanga, the founder of the organisation.

Mr Matanga chronicled the circumstances leading to the establishment of the centre and the road travelled so far.  He outlined his vision for the centre and thanked us for our kind gesture.

We learnt that there are orphaned children who are attending school in nearby primary and secondary schools.   There are success stories too of pupils who have done well in their studies.

The children at the centre performed different traditional dances for us.  Not to be outdone, we also showed them the stuff we are made of by reciting poems for them.  Their marimba is definitely a cut above the rest.  Mr Dondo then presented our donations and promised to return next year with bigger things.

We left at around 5pm having learnt that we are quite fortunate to have parents and guardians who take care of us.  We must never take it for granted.  We are happy that we played our part in helping the needy in our community.
