‘We are the vanguard’

The interaction we had with the party leadership is very important and key in cementing relations between Zanu-PF and war veterans.

The interaction affirmed that war veterans are full members of the party and they have a role to play unlike during the end of the Mugabe era where liberation war fighters were reduced to people of no importance.

So, that is the first thing we wanted, acknowledgment; and that the roles of war veterans be spelt out.

Most importantly, issues to do with welfare of the veterans of the struggle are going to be addressed which is a welcome development.

We have always been the vanguard of the party, we have been a compass pointer of the revolution — where it is coming and where it is going with war veterans directing, then the revolution has a direction.

Our interaction with the leadership gives us an opportunity as war veterans to redirect the party to its founding principles and help the younger generation to follow the right path and understand Zanu-PF’s ideology.

Zanu-PF is a party that has a history of achievement, now that the legacy to protect that history is in correct hands, we must achieve our goals because we have people who know what our history is all about, where it came from and where it is going.

As we go towards elections, the veterans of the struggle, as the vanguard of the party, are going to play an important role.

The people of Zimbabwe supported the liberation struggle, the youths benefited from the policies of Zanu-PF and as a result if everything is spelt out properly, there is no reason why people cannot support the party.
