Vybz Kartel is locked behind bars but his legacy lives on as the deejay’s popularity soars to new heights.

The incarcerated deejay’s latest release of a fresh music video for his single “One” produced by Good Good Productions has caused quite a stir in dancehall circles.

The clip starts out with an aerial view of a section of Kingston and ZJ Chrome in the background making an announcement. The clip then moves to a reporter and a group of people protesting “Free Worl’Boss” lead by dancehall deejay Quick Cook.

This video follows Kartel’s recent nomination for five Youth View Awards including Favourite Dancehall Artiste and Favourite Local Artiste of the Year.

Not even prison can slow down Vybz Kartel because he is still pushing out hits after hits and getting nominations for some top music awards locally.

The former Portmore Empire deejay was also nominated for Favourite Local Chart Topping Song, Favourite Musical Collaboration and Hottest Summer Song of the Year for “Miami Vice”.

Konshens, Popcaan, Chronixx, and Alkaline are also nominated in the Favourite Dancehall Artiste category.

The Youth View Awards will be held in February in Kingston. Fans can now vote for who they want to win the award for each category.

Vybz Kartel, real name Adidja Palmer, celebrated his 39th birthday only a few weeks ago, marking his first birthday since going to prison in April.

In March, Kartel and his protégé Shawn Storm as well as two others were convicted for the murder of their former associate Clive “Lizard” Williams.

Vybz Kartel is celebrating his birthday in prison for the first time since being handed down a life sentence in April last year. Vybz Kartel, born Adidja Azim Palmer, was born in 1976 in Kingston. He grew up in Waterford, Portmore, before launching his career in dancehall.

Reps for the former Portmore Empire deejay told Urban Islandz that his wife Tanesha Johnson and kids would be visiting him in prison – which came to fruition.

Several dancehall artistes also took to their social media page to wish Vybz Kartel a happy birthday. Kartel was convicted of the murder of Clive Lizard on March 13, 2014.

He was sentenced to life in a maximum security prison and will be eligible for parole in 35 years.
