“Dynamos fans should not worry much, I will talk to them on the field of play and that should be soon,” a confident Valentine Ndaba says as he adjusts his sleeping position.
“You heard it from coach Jorge Silva, I am a fighter, I am a lion.
“I have no fracture, these are just wounds, nothing very serious,” he says while recuperating at his family home in Unit A, Chitungwiza.
The 28-year-old attacking player sustained bruises and cuts on his right shoulder and chin when he was involved in an accident near Sam Levy’s Village in Borrowdale, Harare on the evening of May 2.
He was discharged from Parirenyatwa Hospital on Thursday night and will be out of action for at least a month.
Ndaba has become an instant hit at DeMbare since crossing from Highlanders in January, and was in scintillating form in last weekend’s Harare derby.
“It was double jeopardy from me, the accident happening a day after we had lost to Caps United. It’s painful to lose a derby, for me it was worse because Caps United coach Lloyd Chitembwe stays in my hood. Vanogara paseri apo Bla Lodza.
“Chitembwe is one of our local heroes, he played top flight football with my father back in the 1990s.”
You guessed right, Valentine is the son of former State House Tornadoes and Darryn T hard man Forbes Ndaba.
The late Ndaba played alongside the likes of Japhet Mparutsa, David “Chikwama” Mwanza, Cosmas Pritchard and Fanuel Ariberto at State House Tornadoes; before linking up with the younger generation of stars like Chitembwe, Alois Bunjira and Stewart “Shutto” Murisa at Darryn T.
“Yeah, I come from a football family, it has been evident through the kind of people who have been visiting me. Coach Taurai Mangwiro (Harare City) and Elliot Matsika were here (on Thursday). The Dynamos players and management have been very supportive.
“That support is pushing me on, the wounds will heal soon, the doctor has ordered that I go and have the wounds cleaned regularly at a local clinic to avoid any infection,” says Ndaba.
To him, the pain of missing DeMbare’s crucial league match against Hwange at the Colliery this afternoon is tougher than the big wound on his right shoulder.
The former league champions have four points from four games and are six behind city rivals Caps United.
And DeMbare coach Jorge Silva’s job is on the line.
“I get so emotional if I think about (today’s) game, I would have gone to Hwange had it not been for this accident. But I know the DeMbare soldiers who will play there will do the club proud.”
Ndaba began his career at Gunners Juniors before graduating into the senior team in 2012.
He joined Shabanie Mine in 2013 and won the BancABC Super8 Cup under the tutelage of Luke “Vahombe” Masomere.
In 2014 he moved to Highlanders and won the 2015 Easycall Cup, before moving back to the capital in January.
Ndaba is married to Wendy and the couple has a six-year-old child, Munashe.
