The festive season is upon us. And we are thrilled!

The festive mood has long gripped many families with some having already stocked up their pantries with food and drinks for the merry-making period.

When those office Christmas parties start rolling in, remember to have fun responsibly.

When those office Christmas parties start rolling in, remember to have fun responsibly.

Besides festive celebrations at home, a number of companies, social clubs and church groups, among others, traditionally hold Christmas parties.
Partying with a crowd that you spend most of your time with throughout the year requires that you hold yourself together. It is at such parties that your genuine personality can be revealed.
Any form of misconduct could otherwise taint your reputation for life.
So in the process of socialising, eating, drinking and dancing, make sure that you just do not do the unimaginable. In that regard, Style Corner has a few guidelines that will help you keep your character in-check.
Show-up: A cardinal rule is to show up at the event that you have been invited unless an emergency or urgent commitment arises.
Dress appropriately: You should always costume according to specified dress codes. When there are no specifications, opt for a smart casual look with comfortable shoes. Bottom line; always be clean and avoid grungy looks. They will definitely make you infamous.
Food: Never get rowdy or angry because of food – even if you are hungry. Always follow the prescribed protocol by whoever is in charge of the distribution of food. Again there is no need to jump the queue because hunger pangs have hit you hard. When you decide to take food from the event do so only when there is excess. Also you should quickly identify food that gives you allergy to avoid causing scenes.
Watch your drinks: If you are not into alcoholic beverages, make sure you know the contents of any drinks you take. Also those that take the liquids of wisdom should do so responsibly. Alternating between alcohol and water usually helps. Sober behaviour will save you from becoming a nuisance in front of your workmates, both subordinates and superiors.
Conversation: Making decent conversation is a part of being a great guest at a party. It is important not to agitate your colleagues by marking unpleasant remarks, gossip or discussing office politics. Stick to general social issues.
Have fun: Last but not least, if you are confident of your dancing skills do not hesitate to hit the dance floor when a proper opportunity unveils itself.
Dance to the sounds of Chopper Chimbetu, Michael Jackson and Mafikizolo – but just do not over do it. Breaking the ice on the dance floor is a challenge at most parties and whoever does so usually becomes the crowds’ favourite. But remember to leave the twerking and other such dances for an appropriate crowd!
Style Corner would like to wish you a blessed, safe and Merry Christmas.
