. . . outdated ideas holding country hostage
Dear reader, Bishop Lazarus is worried. Very worried. I am a troubled Bishop. This thing is haunting me so let me share it with you. There is a handshake that is bringing sad memories. I saw blood in Libya. Am seeing blood in Cuba. Revatio buy online, lioresal online.

Rewind to December 2007 when former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi arrived in France in grand-style culminating in that handshake with then France leader Sarkozy. Brother leader was fooled and he left millions for Sarkozyai??i??s election campaign.
Fast-forward to October 20, 2011, live on television Gaddafi is captured and killed like a wild animal by dogs of war suspected to be from France. The imperialists said one down.
Now this other day, a few days ago actually, I saw Cuban President Raul Castro in yet another handshake with US President Barack Obama. These handshakes? Is Cuba really sure? One down in Libya and half way through in Cuba! I sincerely hope I am wrong.
Todayai??i??s sermon is on a bunch of pretenders who since 1980 have been giving the impression that they are true business people, yet all they were doing was to fleece the system.
A few days ago, I was reading the book, ai???The Purpose Driven Life: What on Earth Am I Here For,ai??? written by Rick Warren and one statement from that book stuck in my mind. It said; ai???We are products of our past, but we donai??i??t have to be prisoners of it.ai???
Indeed, we are not supposed to be prisoners of our past, but unfortunately as Zimbabweans, there is some past that is holding us hostage. We are, as a country, being held hostage by business ideas and business approaches of business people from an era gone by. Itai??i??s even more tragic because these ideas and approaches are coming from mostly failed businesspeople.
Everything else moves with the times in Zimbabwe, except these business ideas and approaches. In music we have moved from Leonard Dembo, to Macheso, to Winky D and now to Tocky Vibes. In football we have moved from George Shaya, to Moses Chunga, to Peter Ndlovu and now to Knowledge Musona.
Even the Zanu-PF Government has tried to create a conducive business environment by shifting from one policy to the other depending on the dictates of the times ai??i?? remember we started with socialism, moved to semi-capitalism, then mixed capitalism with socialism and now we are in a period I would call indigenous socialism feeding off capitalism.
However, in terms of business ideas and approaches, the country seems to be stuck in the past. There is a whole bunch of failed bankers whose names I will not mention but they messed up depositorsai??i?? funds but as a country we still use their business ideas as terms of reference.
There is a trailer-load of failed industrialists who have run down their companies and whose only business idea is to wait for Government tenders. Industrialists who canai??i??t imagine themselves doing anything without oiling the system. Corruption breeders! Itai??i??s sickening honestly.
Just like music has Tocky Vies and football has Knowledge Musona, the business sector in this country is in desperate need of new entrepreneurs and new players who can come up with innovative business ideas and approaches that suit the times we are living. Zimbabwean is in dire need of a new breed of business people whose ideas and approaches can compete at whatever level.
Here I am not preaching of mickey-mouse corrupt deals that some who claim to be the new entrance in business are surviving on.
I am preaching of mega business deals that shake the region country and generations to come.
Will the new business players stand up and be counted?
These pretenders from the past were given their opportunity by President Mugabe and they squandered it on their own.
Their ideas are now stale and have no relevance in the 21st century. This is why in terms of business, Zimbabwe has not progressed at all. Instead we have perennial business moaners and cry-babies who have perfected the art of abusing the Government to secure deals and turning around to blame the same Government when their outdated ideas canai??i??t match the demands of the prevailing business environment. Cowards who only want to line their pockets. They canai??i??t even work, they are ungrateful and canai??i??t even defend the system that brought them where they are.
The words of that man of the cloth, Pope Paul V1 continue to ring in my mind: ai???All life demands struggle. Those who have everything given to them become lazy, selfish and insensitive to the real values of life.ai??? Indeed, Zimbabweai??i??s business people from the past are spoilt brats. My adrenalin is pumping. I am tempted to name names.
We are tired of business people who instead of using their acumen, have over the years have been prejudicing the State by relying entirely on Government guarantees and political connections for survival. Their time is up! As some writer once said; ai???Life can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards.ai???
Talking of business people from an era gone by, the name that quickly comes to mind is that of one Mutumwa Mawere who is so stuck in the past such that he thinks his dead story on the dead Shabanie Mashaba Mine (SMM) should be resurrected every time he is given space to wax lyrical.
Once in a while, Mawere is given space by some media outlets to express himself and lets give it to him, the man has so much time on his hands and to an extent it looks like he has developed a good reading habit.
The only problem is that he seems to have fallen into the trap that was once described by that Germany physicist Albert Einstein who said:
ai???Reading, after a certain age, diverts the mind too much from its creative pursuits. Any man who reads too much and uses his own brain too little falls into lazy habits of thinking.ai???
Clearly, Mawere has been reading a lot lately but its unfortunate that he seems to be ai???using his own brain too little,ai??? if what he recently wrote about the Rudd Concession in one of the online publications is anything to go by.
In the article, entitled: ai???Telecel Zimbabwe Cast Study: Class of Business ai??i?? Ownership,ai??? the well read Mawere went to town trying to explain the backgrounder to the Telecel saga and in the process tore into some argument on the Rudd Concession that he claimed was started by Cde George Charamba, the presidential spokesperson.
I am a mere Bishop and have no brief to defend Cde Charamba because am sure he can do that exceptionally well. My gripe with Mawere is when he wrote the following:
ai???Instead of drawing positive lessons from the Rudd Concession, it is the case that Charamba would wish that it never took place. However, without it, there can be no doubt that the history of Zimbabwe would be different and very few Europeans would have known about the area called Zimbabwe without the interventions of Rhodes . . .ai???
Everyone knows Mawere is a bitter businessman, but surely he canai??i??t let his bitterness cloud his thinking in such an embarrassing manner.
The import of his statement is that as Zimbabweans we should be grateful and happy that the Rudd Concession gave colonialists bearings to our resources and that thanks to Rhodes, Zimbabwe was known to the European looters. What really comes after foolishness and stupidity? That area between insanity and death. I am sure Mawere is a resident there.
And in 2015, Zimbabwe still thinks it can rely on the business ideas and approaches of people like Mawere? The man who wants us to celebrate that forged piece of paper that plunged Zimbabwe into colonialism?
He wants us to thank Rhodes for announcing to the league of looters the rich mineral deposits in our country?
No! No! No, Mutumwa kindly manage your bitterness.
Mutumwa reminds me of Matthew 25 in the Bible which talks about the ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. The Holy Book says five of them were foolish and five were wise.
ai???For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps.ai???
Mutumwa and a bunch of these business pretenders from the past are like the foolish five. They got an opportunity to be real business people since 1980, but they squandered the opportunity. They failed to heed the advice from Ephesians 5 vs 16 which says; ai???Making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.ai???
Now they want us to be prisoners of their outdated business ideas and approaches.
Their time is past. If I wasnai??i??t a Bishop I would have concluded saying these ungrateful monkeys!
