OLD Georgians opened up their 2017 Gold Cup with a master class performances, putting 50 points past the much-fancied opponents, but gaffer Grant Mitchell believes there is still much work to be done.

“Stay humble” was the gaffer’s message soon after OGs powered to an empathic 57-36 victory over visiting South African outfit Raiders at OGs Sports Club yesterday.

Lenience Tarembwa led the way with 33 points, which included eight penalties and four conversions.

Fullback Shingi Katswere, Lock Fortune Chipendu, Takudzwa Chieza, Graham Kaullback and David McWade chipped with a try each.As for the visitors, they got on the scoreboard through a hat-trick from winger Itumeleng Mphete and a try from Anele Magubane and Ashwill Adams.

Fly-half Chanwille October also chipped in with the boot, kicking two penalties and three conversions.

Mitchell described his charges as outstanding but was quick to warn against being carried away.

“Look, I am obviously ecstatic; it was an outstanding game and the boys did everything that was asked of them,” he said. “They played hard and smart rugby, absorbed pressure and exerted it when required.

“However, we are a humble side and now we go back to the drawing board, review our performance and prepare for our next assignment.”

Raiderz coach Fernando Penshaw, conceded defeat. “We lost plain and simple,” he said.

“We did not have discipline when defending, and I am not really sure but I think we gave away more than 21 points to penalties.

“Their kicker (Tambwera) punished us at every turn and that was the difference between victory and defeat.

“You can’t play like that and expect to win, not at this level.”
