A programme to avail residential stands for youths around Zimbabwe is on course and the initiative will follow due process, Zanu-PF National Secretary for Youth Affairs Cde Kudzanai Chipanga has said. Addressing delegates at the 21st February Movement Celebrations here yesterday, Cde Chipanga said President Mugabe – who initiated the programme — had made it clear the process would not be done haphazardly.
“Your Excellency, we would like to thank you for the land which you have availed to the country through the Ministry of Local Government and (we also) take advice that you must not occupy unserviced land.
“We started off with too much eagerness to move in to the stands but we were advised by the responsible authorities that the stands should be serviced and, Your Excellency, you also affirmed this,” he said.
Cde Chipanga said youths need to be patient as the process is taking shape, adding that “in some areas, 97 percent of the processes are through”.
Cde Chipanga said youths will burn the midnight oil to ensure Zanu-PF and President Mugabe wins next year’s harmonised elections
He said the Zanu-PF Youth League will steadfastly support President Mugabe to be Life President as it is impossible to have any other candidate in the party.
“It is in this spirit Your Excellency that we find it hard and even impossible for us to talk about any other leader other than yourself. The Youth League, therefore, endorses your candidacy in all future elections.”
Cde Chipanga said the choice of venue to mark President Mugabe’s birthday this year sent a clear message about Zimbabwe’s sovereignty.
“Your Excellency, we decided upon this venue, Matopos, to honour you on your 93rd birthday not only for its scenery and tourist value, but as a demonstration to imperialist forces that Zimbabwe is in the hands of its rightful people.
“Today we trample on Cecil John’s Rhodes as we condemn with utmost disgust everything that he stood for as we celebrate our total freedom from colonial bondage, the freedom of which you have proved a worthy torchbearer.”
Rhodes, who led British colonialism of Zimbabwe, was buried at Matobo.
In his address, Matabelaland South Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Abednico Ncube said Matabo is historical treasure as it comprises 4 000 rock paintings.
“Matobo has 4 000 rock paintings out of 10 000 in the country. This is very significant given that there are only 30 000 such rock paintings in the region.”
Zanu-PF Matabeleland South youth provincial chair Cde Lizwe Moyo also said young people will work hard to ensure Zanu-PF retains all the 13 Parliamentary seats it won in the province in the 2013 elections.
