LEARNMORE MASONA clinched Zimbabwe Karate Union Champion of Champions men’s open title after beating a battling Daniel Kwaramba at the Harare Exhibition Park yesterday.
The 24-year-old Masona attributed his success to hard work.
“I am very happy with the win,” he said.“After putting in all the hard work in training, it feels good to be rewarded. It shows good progress, I hope one day l will reach the top levels like sensei Samson Muripo.”
Kwaramba said reaching the final was a success.
“Last time I came third and to be second this year makes me feel happy.
“I’m pretty pleased with my performances and am also glad to finish without any serious injuries. I would want to thank God, my sensei and everyone from our IFK dojo,” said Kwaramba.
In other categories, Sharleen Amoda won the women’s open title while Precious Kazembe clinched the girls’ open gong.
ZKU technical director, Paul Danisa praised the ‘creative’ athletes who graced the competition.
“The standard is definitely higher than we have had in other years in terms of preparations and skills displayed.
“The athletes are showing more creativity, they are fitter and we hope to keep that kind of momentum.
“We used this tournament to select the national teams for next year, particularly the major international events like the Zone VI we will be hosting in May,” said Danisa.
