A desire to see Walls of Worship music spreading around the world saw the birth of a group known as Songs of Calvary.
Songs of Calvary recently released their debut single, “Give It All”, which has already found a following on the Star FM “Gospel Greats” Show.
The group consists of five members and after two weeks on the charts, the lyrically-rich song has captured the hearts of gospel music lovers.
Group leader Sean Innocent Ukomba said they were working on a seven-track album which will be titled “Songs of Calvary”.
Ukomba said God called them to restore the Walls of Worship music not only in Zimbabwe but world-over, hence their songs were in English.
“In obedience to God I started penning songs about five years ago and when I was writing I had one clear cause in mind, which was to create and share the cross-centered worship experience with many people. This eventually became the birth of Songs of Calvary. God added more people to the vision and now we are a team of passionate, gifted and God-fearing people, ready to advance the Gospel through song,” Ukomba said.
He said “Give It All” was a tribute to Jesus’ sacrifice for all sinners.
“From Adam in the Old Testament to Moses, men’s relationship with the Creator was always tainted with sin and the coming of Jesus Christ brought hope for an everlasting life because his death atoned for our sins. That is the message behind our song Give it all.
“It is impossible for believers to maintain a Christ-centered approach to life if they cannot uphold a cross-centered attitude to life. Times are changing driven by the digital revolution that has vastly enhanced the face of the music industry, as well as how people encounter, relate and use new music.
“It is imperative for us content providers to keep up with the times. And for us, what this amounts to is an opportunity to deliver fresh content to our listening community on a more frequent basis in order to stay on their radar and be afforded that amazing opportunity to perpetually share the message of the death of Jesus on the Cross of Calvary and his victorious resurrection.”
He went on” “Singles are the reason why many people buy albums. And for a new group like ours, singles are a way of extending and lengthening the reach of our message while we build our debut album. We are not in this ministry to entertain, but to share hope and kingdom life through inspired lyrics and melodies. We ventured into gospel music to diligently push the Word of God.”
On live performances, Ukomba said they planned to stage as many as possible in the near future.
“Definitely we are going to host them, though we would rather not refer to them as shows. We are here to share the message of hope and salvation and not to entertain per se. “We prefer to refer to our live performance as experiences rather than shows. We will be publishing dates as and when God affords us the capacity to.”
Group manager Annatolia Chimunye said they would not rest until they had achieved their aim — to reach millions of people who are eager to commune with God through song.
