FAIRYTALE Premiership debutants ZPC Kariba could also lose one of their key players Obey Mwerahari to the Super Diski as the lure of the rand continues to ravage the local league.

The roving right back, whose contract expires at the end of the month, is set to leave the country tomorrow for trials at struggling outfit Polokwane City.

ZPC Kariba have hinted on retaining his services, but the tall former Eagles and Monomotapa player is keen on trying his luck down south with another trial stint at Maritzburg United also lined up.

Mwerahari says he remains committed to ZPC Kariba’s cause and was full of praise for the club management’s professionalism.

He has not closed the door on extending his stay at the side should nothing materialise in the Super Diski.

The 24-year old defender will leave either tomorrow or Tuesday, but revealed his pain at the possibility of departing ZPC.

“ZPC is a good side run along professional lines. They have helped me showcase my talent and would not hesitate to play for the team anytime.

“However, my contract expires at the end of the month and I have to go and try my luck at Polokwane City and if all goes according to plan, I will go for another trial stint at Maritzburg.

“I will be excited if I make the grade because it has always been my dream to play football abroad and South Africa would be a good starting point,” said Mwerahari.

His manager Sipho Vusa Sibanda confirmed the move.

“Yes, we are going to South Africa on Monday or Tuesday for Mwerahari’s trials at Polokwane City. There is a possibility we might also go to Maritzburg United for trials.

“We hope we are able to do that at once instead of coming back and having to go back to South Africa again,” said Sibanda.

Sibanda said if the versatile player — who is at home at centre back as he is at right back and holding midfield — is unsuccessful, they will also check with Highlanders who had expressed interest just before the start of the recently concluded season.

“Bosso phoned us at the last minute wanting his services, but it was late because we had already agreed with ZPC. So if we are not successful in South Africa, we will try at Highlanders.

“We wait to see who takes over at Highlanders because the coach (Kelvin Kaindu) who wanted his services has since left,” he said.

ZPC impressed in their debut season and lost the Premiership title to Dynamos on the last day after succumbing 3-2 to an inspired Caps United led by caretaker coach Mike Madzivanyika.

Mwerahari has won two caps with the Warriors after featuring in friendly matches against Tanzania and Mozambique under Ian Gorowa and has also played for the Under-17s, Under-20s and Under-23s.

He started his football career at Agatha Shaneti Football Academy before joining the now defunct Eagles on his way to Monomotapa.
