FC PLATINUM continued with their fine form with a clinical dismissal of Chicken Inn in a Castle Premier Soccer League tie at Mandava yesterday.

Goals from Thabani Kamusoko and Donald Ngoma gave Norman Mapeza’s charges their 11th triumph of the season and enhanced their chances of securing a top four finish.

Kamusoko, who never got going, opened the scoring two minutes after the breather with a curling free kick that left Chicken Inn goalie Elvis Chipezeze stranded.

Substitute Obrey Chirwa, who came in for the disappointing Ashley Mukwena, then created the home side’s second goal.

The Zambian won possession on the right flank, left his marker Brian Mbiriri for dead before sending in a cross that was met by a firm header by Ngoma on 51 minutes.

The scoreline, however, does little justice to a spirited second half performance by Mapeza’s men.

Tatenda Dzumbunu, Wisdom Mutasa, Ngoma and the Moyo twins— Kelvin and Elvis — never put a foot wrong as FC Platinum opened up the Chicken Inn defence with a swift passing game with relative ease.

Despite watching his charges miss several chances Mapeza wore a broad smile after the final whistle.

“We did very well. My players were too slow in the second half but the situation changed in the second half and we got the goals that won us the match.

“We are in the right direction but we are not yet safe as far as the top four is concerned. We need to win out remaining matches so that we get to have a crack at the Mbada Diamonds Cup,” he said.

Chicken Inn coach Joey “Mafero” Antipas expressed reservations about the free kick that gave FC Platinum the lead.

“That was not a free kick and it took the steam out of my players. However, I must concede that their second goal was a beauty. We also want a top four finish but things are a bit complicated for us now,” he said.
