The country’s service chiefs will not waver in defending Zimbabwe’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, the commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, General Constantine Chiwenga, has pledged. General Chiwenga made the remarks while addressing scores of people who were gathered at the memorial service of Sekuru Charles Fennel Zimondi, father to Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services Commissioner-General Paradzai Zimondi, in Uzumba yesterday.

General Chiwenga said the service chiefs share both professional and personal relationships spanning over 40 years. “I encourage youths to emulate the kind of unity that I and my colleagues share so that they can be able to guard the land that our ancestors left us,” he said. “This unity has enabled us to guard the country’s heritage and to protect our land which all of us should also guard jealously.”

Commissioner-General Zimondi concurred with General Chiwenga, adding that service chiefs are the ones who had contributed greatly towards the successful hosting of yesterday’s memorial service.

“I would like to thank my fellow service chiefs for all the support they have given me for this event,” he said.
“They have contributed a lot because we have come a long way together. We share a relationship which spans for over 40 years and it is that unity which enables us to guard the legacy which people like my father left for us.”

Meanwhile, Sekuru Charles Fennel Zimondi was a wise man who loved his country and worked hard to uphold its history and values through development. The event was attended by several senior Government officials, service chiefs and traditional leaders.
