Science and technology is destroying forests

Ibo Foroma Rastafarian Perspectives —
DECEMBER 1 was National Tree Planting day and just for interest’s sake, how many trees did you plant? In order to reverse the damage caused, we need to outpace the rate of total deforestation or else face self-destruction. In total, an area the size of Zimbabwe is disappearing every 5,3 528 356 years, roughly speaking.

As 1,6 billion people across the globe depend on forest products for their livelihoods resulting in one and half acres of forest disappearing every second. This means all rainforests might disappear within 100 years.

Not only do “big industries” (organized crime) clear vast tracts of forest, the “small axe” also reduces dense forests to arid wastelands. No matter what size of weapon, technological tools are destroying the essence of the planet in exchange for a “better life” and more paper.

Loss of forests contributes to between 12 percent and 17 percent of annual global greenhouse gas emissions (World Resources Institute). As revealed in Revelations, these are the Biblical plagues that human beings endorsed with the mark of the beast are busy pouring out into the world.

“In that day man shall move from near and far in search of knowledge.”

Now that knowledge (science) has been released to the world and the Lion of Judah is seating on His throne of David as King of Kings, the Kingdom of Zion is now revealed.

Just like his Creator, mankind is now literary equipped with “Godly” powers and can create anything including weapons of mass destruction. This power should never be abused.

Man is created in the image and likeness of God thus man has always been Godly. In simple terms Jahman, Rastaman, Yahwe and so forth. This comes from “those that are called by my name” and “His name shall be written on their foreheads” justified as dreadlocks on the head are commonly referred to as Rasta. (Revelation 3:7 and 12).

Explaining why Rastafarians possess righteousness: “In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely, and this is his name whereby he shall be called, the Lord our righteousness,” (Jeremiah 23:6).

Emperor Haile Selassie I is the Crowned Conquering Lion of Judah, King of Kings of Ethiopia whose emblem has the rainbow described in Revelation 4:3 and 10:1.

Also consider, “And I will clothe him with thy robe, and strengthen him with thy girdle, and I will commit thy government into his hand: and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah. And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder…” (Isaiah 22:21-22).

Ras (Head/Prince/Duke) Tafari (one to be feared/respected/revered/) was born in 1892 and around this time science and technology exploded evolving into this new age, golden age, global village (vile-age), computer age, space age, information age, etc.

For instance, in 1886, Karl Benz invented the first petrol or gasoline powered auto-mobile and in 1893, Rudolf Diesel invented the diesel engine. In 1895, Guglielmo Marconi invented a system of wireless communication using radio waves, and the Lumiere brothers invented the cinematograph.

The first Zeppelin is designed by Theodor Kober (1900). The first manually controlled, fixed wing, motorized aircraft flies at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina courtesy of the Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur (1903).

The first flight of a rotary-wing aircraft is carried out by Paul Cornu and Leo Baekeland invents bakelite, the fully synthetic plastic (1907).

Cellophane is invented by Jacques E Brandenberger(1908). Fritz Haber invented the Haber process and the first instantaneous transmission of images, or television broadcast is carried out by Georges Rignoux and A. Fournier (1909).

The first atomic bomb exploded in July 1945. In this Armageddon or Judgment Time, mankind is being judged by his works through his/her use of science and technology (take-knowledge).

For instance, the diesel engine is polluting the air, depleting ozone, increasing carbon levels, warming the globe, melting poles and deforesting.

Agriculture is the leading cause of deforestation. About 13 million hectares per year in South America, Africa and South East Asia are converted from a forest to an agriculture land. Kilometres deep open cast mines and mining in general incorporated.

Poverty, overpopulation and unequal land access are the main causes of man-made deforestation. According to Forestry Department, Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, about half of the world’s tropical forests has already been cleared due to the 4500 acres of forests that are cleared every hour by forest fires, bull dozers, machetes, etc.

About 20 percent of the world’s oxygen is produced in the Amazon forest. However, as the rate of deforestation equals to loss of 20 football fields every minute, all that is soon to be history. At this rate, 500 years from now Earth and Mars will be identical twins.

As innumerable species thrive in healthy forests, up to 28 000 species are expected to be extinct by the next quarter of the century. The most scientifically advanced, (highly developed) and industrialized countries consume 12 times more wood and its products per person than the less or non-industrialized countries.

Since trees absorb groundwater and release it into the atmosphere during transpiration, when deforestation happens, the climate automatically changes to harsh and dry. This negatively affects the water table, hydro, oxygen, carbon and nitrogen cycles.

Where deforestation is followed by conversion to other than forest land uses, the effects are magnified causing increased losses of carbon, nitrogen, phosphorous and sulphur from terrestrial ecosystems. Sources
