INTER-DENOMINATIONAL gospel music choir, Purple Pride Family, will soon embark on a countrywide talent search that will give children in remote areas an opportunity to join the choir and exhibit their talents.

The choir’s public relations officer, Mr Emmanuel Muchava, told The Sunday Mail Religion that this month, the choir will officially launch the initiative which is a brainchild of choir founder, Mr Albert Mtengwa.

“This initiative has been long overdue considering the fact that the choir was launched in 2012.When Mtengwa was called to establish the choir, this was one of his tasks. Unfortunately due to a number of reasons, we have not being able to achieve our dream.

“But against all odds and by the grace of God, this year we will do it,” said Muchava.

He said Purple Pride Family intends to unify musicians in and outside Zimbabwe so as to spread the word of God.

“People might wonder how we are going to achieve this. As Purple Pride we are cognisant of the fact that gospel musicians do not compete against each other, they complement each other.

“We are in the ministry for God. We are not geared towards entertainment, but to preach and spread the word of God through praise and worship. Throughout our programs, we abide by the principles of the ministry of God and other artistes will emulate us,” he said.

Muchava added that his choir is also crafting strategies that will position them to be a platform for people in the cities to showcase their talent and have their music recorded.

The 20-member Harare based choir is a combination of musicians from denominations that include The Roman Catholic Church, United Family International Church (UFIC) and Methodist Church in Zimbabwe, among others.

“The purpose of the choir is to express our Christian heritage through multi-cultural fellowship and also being one integrated team with members from various churches. We brought musicians from different churches so as to fuse different talents and come up with a polished product that appeals to many,” said Muchava.

“We intend to approach both established and upcoming artistes to be part of the group, we want to be the power team in praise and worship sessions.

“This is the time to save souls through music as we minister God’s word,” he said.

Recently, the choir released a single, “Jesu ndiye hama”, which was on the Star Fm Gospel Greats Top 20 last Sunday. The song was recorded at Eternity Studio by Macdonald ‘Macdee’ Chidavaenzi.

“We don’t have a specific genre, we sing all types of music. Currently we are working on a gospel rhumba song that will be released soon.”
